Grobag® - the safe alternative

Many babies kick off top bedding and become chilly in the middle of the night, while Grobag® baby sleeping bags keep babies warm and cosy, whatever position they end up in by the morning. This means a safer sleeping environment for your baby and more sleep for you. In addition to the baby sleeping bag, Grobag® also produces a unique patented bottom sheet that cannot come un-tucked, however much your baby wriggles about.

Grobag® recently sponsored a survey by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), a leading baby charity, which discovered that 52% of parents thought a baby's bedding should be left loose. This is a worrying statistic as research in the UK found that loose bedding could increase the risk of cot death by up to 9 times.

We spend a lot of time ensuring that Grobag® baby sleeping bags meet all relevant standards, and they also ensure that they provide comprehensive guidance and information about using Grobag® baby sleeping bags safely and correctly.

Safe Sleep & FSID

"People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one."
- Leo J. Burke

Every new parent worries about how the baby will disrupt normal sleep patterns and there is no getting away from the fact that the first few months are going to be a challenge! Did you know the army keep their soldiers awake for days trying to mentally break them . . . . forget SAS training, try having a baby!

The reason why we started Grobag® was because of the incredible change to our lives from the first night we put our son, Sam, aged 9 months, into a baby sleeping bag and he slept for 12 hours. This was because, for the first time, he didn't wake up cold, having kicked off his covers. You also want to know that when you are asleep, you can be confident that your baby is safe and comfortable, so that you can sleep peacefully too. Grobag® baby sleeping bags are the safe alternative to blankets and top sheets and when used correctly, in conjunction with the advice given to the right, can help you and all the family have more a peaceful night's sleep.

Sleeping safely

Grobag® works closely with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, a leading baby charity, to help make your baby's sleeping environment as safe as possible. We also donate a substantial proportion of income each year to safe sleeping research. It is important to stress that ‘cot death' is a very rare occurrence, although as parents ourselves, we worried about it for the first year, just like anyone else. Having spent 3 years meeting up with the medical team and staff at FSID, we have come to the conclusion that by following all the advice to the right, you really cannot do anymore to reduce the risk and so as parents, you are doing the best you can.

"We are delighted to be working with the team at Grobag Limited, in what is our fourth year of collaboration. Rob and Ouvrielle came to us for safety advice 6 months before they launched Grobag and we were pleased to help them - it was obvious that safety was one of their main concerns from the start.

Not only do the Grobag baby sleeping bags meet all our requirements in terms of their design and construction, but we appreciate the extra steps that have been taken to ensure the Grobags are used correctly by parents. For example, the free room thermometer that is supplied with every Grobag helps parents maintain the correct room temperature and on the reverse of the thermometer, parents are reminded of all the steps to make a safer sleeping environment for children.

Grobag Limited were the first dedicated baby sleeping bag manufacturer to come to us and ask for extensive help in the development of their products and we have been very happy to work with them and look forward to working with them for many years to come."

FSID's "reduce the risk" message is:

  • Cut smoking in pregnancy - fathers too!
  • Do not let anyone smoke in the same room as your baby
  • Place your baby on the back to sleep
  • Do not let your baby get too hot
  • Keep your baby's head uncovered - place your baby with feet to the foot of the cot to prevent wriggling down under the covers
  • Sleep your baby in their cot in your bedroom for the first 6 months
  • Don't sleep in the same bed as your baby particularly if you are a smoker, have been drinking alcohol, take drugs or medication that makes you drowsy or you are excessively tired
  • Do not fall asleep on the sofa or settee with your baby
  • If your baby is unwell, seek medical advice promptly
